Must Reads
I inhabit a city that moves at the speed of swift subways. It builds skyscrapers and real estate offices and new hotels at the rate of construction-workers-work-through-the-night. I feel my city’s heartbeat is that of a runner trying to maintain a sprint for the entirety of a marathon. While I have long defined myself as a city girl, the pace of cities rubs up against my need for stillness; I often find my refuge and calm in books. Here are the reads I’ve savored, and I’d love to engage in more discourse about — let’s Book Club together!
On transformation
Four brothers becomes five until Claude, the youngest, begins to wear dresses. When parents Rosie and Penn accept that the dresses are not a phase, they realize that if they don’t want their baby to disappear entirely, they will need to learn to create and find the spaces for their child to become who she knows herself to be. Laurie Frankel’s novel is a reflection on identity and holding space for all us to be who we feel we were born to be. I so didn’t want this read to end.
Mary’s Gone Crackers
I go crazy for any of Mary’s crackers. Some of my favorites include: The Classic SuperSeed and Honey Grahams! You can find Mary’s Gone Crackers at Costco, but I order from iHerb.

Alter Ego Super Blackout
Imma a sweet girl, but I like my chocolate a little bit bitter. The thing with Alter Eco is you get smooth bitter which is less of an oxymoron and more of a wonderful paradox.
Juno & Tani Jewelry
I love supporting local artisans and I adore the way that Juno & Tani incorporate pieces of Korean culture into their handmade earrings. They also ship worldwide!
Tal & Bert Candles
It’s the way that form meets function, that sight meets scent, and that imperfections meet beauty that make me want to buy everything from this Black-owned business. Everything on the site makes for handsome gifts as well!
Prana
I am starting to think about sustainable fashion in terms of vintage stores and just-like-new-hand-me-overs from friends and sisters. When I do find it’s time to buy something specific that I really want, I head to Prana because their fabrics are oh so soft and sustainability is one of their core values.
